NAREE Bivins Fellowship Grants cover hotel costs for NAREE’s Annual Conference.

WHO CAN APPLY:

The NAREE Bivins professional development fellowship was created for independent journalists working for the news division of independent news outlets.

• Bona fide digital, print and broadcast journalists — freelance or staff writers, reporters, editors, columnists and broadcast producers— covering residential and commercial real estate, mortgage and finance, the business of real estate, home and urban design, luxury housing, green building, architecture, housing policy among other topics for bona fide news outlets.

• NAREE defines bona fide news outlets as those independent of sponsoring organizations/ advertising control, not affiliated with trade associations, lobby groups, PR firms, real estate brokerage companies or any companies in the broad field of real estate – building companies, developers, architects, etc. or governmental entities.

The Fellowship is named for NAREE past president and veteran award-winning journalist, Ralph Bivins for his devotion to the group.

Note: Both NAREE Active member working journalists and non-member working journalists are eligible to apply. NAREE members must be active members in good standing. There is no fee for NAREE active members who have paid their 2024 dues in full. Renew your membership here.

Journalist non-members must pay a $75 application fee, which can be applied to annual membership dues. Join NAREE here.

NAREE dues are not tax deductible as a charitable contribution for federal tax purposes, but may be deducted as a business expense. NAREE is a non-profit trade organization. IRS registration is #51-1036401.

NAREE UNIVERSITY

The goal of NAREE’s Annual Bivins Fellowship is to provide travel stipends to NAREE’s Annual Conference to enhance the profession of real estate journalism. NAREE University professional development sessions at the Annual Conference offer journalists – both new to the real estatebeat and veterans – a chance to enhance skills and broaden the spectrum of industry sources. The NAREE Conference’s panel discussions and presentations provide journalists with current industry data, trend analysis and insightful forecasts.

JUDGING:

Fellowship applications may be judged by the faculty of an accredited university's journalism department.

DEADLINE:

Submit through this portal by May 1.

NAREE Bivins Fellowship provides Travel Grants for Real Estate Journalists attending NAREE’s Annual Conference. This year, #NAREE2024 will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Austin, Texas. NAREE’s travel stipend is available for check-in as early as Monday, June 17 and up to check-out on Friday, June 21. If you want to extend your stay, you will have to cover those weekend dates on your own, but the conference rate may be available to those who ask early.
